Celebrating 40 Years of Jayell Ford in Kyabram

In 2025, Jayell Ford proudly celebrates 40 years of serving Kyabram and the wider Goulburn Valley community. What began as a small family-run dealership in 1985 has grown into a regional automotive success story built on loyalty, hard work, and strong community connections.

Where It All Began

The Jayell Ford story started in October 1985 when John and Jan McIlroy took over the former Peter Lyon Motors dealership. With a team of nine and a modest site, their focus was simple: deliver genuine service and build trust within the community. Two years later, the business adopted the name Jayell Ford, inspired by John and Jan’s shared middle initial, “L”.

A New Home on Bradley Street

Rapid growth led to the purchase of two blocks of land on Bradley Street in 1994. By March 1996, a brand-new purpose-built dealership opened its doors, marking a new era for the business. Ford racing icon Glen Seton attended the launch, and photos from that day even capture a young Ashley McIlroy—now Dealer Principal—starting his early career in spare parts.

Growing With Our Regions

In the years that followed, the McIlroy family expanded their Ford operations to Benalla, Mansfield, Wangaratta and Yarrawonga, creating a strong regional network supported by long-term community relationships. This growth later became the foundation for a successful partnership with the Jacob Group of Companies, ensuring continued investment, stability and opportunities across all sites.

Today, the combined group employs more than 500 staff throughout regional Victoria and New South Wales, contributing to local jobs and regional economic growth.

A Message From the McIlroy Family

Dealer Principal Ashley McIlroy reflected on the milestone:

“It has been a pleasure to serve Kyabram and District over the last 40 years and we thank the many customers who have supported Jayell Ford through this time. The McIlroy family and the Jacob family are looking forward to many more years of servicing the local community with Sales, Service and Parts.”

Founder John McIlroy also shared his pride:

“We started from very small beginnings in 1985 in a fairly shabby little dealership with a staff of nine. When I retired, our company operated sites across Kyabram, Benalla, Mansfield, Wangaratta and Yarrawonga with around 90 people working for us. Jan and I are proud of what we achieved in our 38 years.”

A New Chapter With New Leadership

Newly appointed General Manager Steven Rousart joins Jayell Ford at a pivotal moment in its history:
